Quinta do Tamariz is a land of History and stories

The legacy of what is now Quinta do Tamariz began to take shape in the late 19th century with António Borges, a banker completely enamored with the pleasures of the vineyard, who decided to expand his activities, initially centered around the prestigious Casa Borges & Irmão bank, into the export of wines produced on his estates.

However, it was in 1926, with D. Lúcia Borges Vinagre, who inherited the estates in S. Miguel da Carreira, Barcelos, from her father António Borges, that a significant development in winemaking truly began.

In both the vineyard and the winery, the motto is: more physics, less chemistry.

Quinta do Tamariz preserves the tradition and experience accumulated over four generations, always with an eye to the future, seeking a prominent position in the wine market.

In the winemaking and bottling process, the goal is to preserve the memory of a time that lives on through us. The same passion of our ancestors inspires us to make every bottle a memorable experience.

We produce wines, sparkling wines, and wine brandies, aged in Limousin oak casks.

We are independent winegrowers.

Get to Know Our Story

This book was born from the desire of Mr. Dr. António Vinagre to reconstruct the past of his emblematic estate, Quinta do Tamariz, located in the Vinho Verde Region.


An economist and entrepreneur, aware of the importance of his role in serving the community, he also acts as a winegrower and bottler. He dedicated part of his life to the art of preserving and promoting, through the finest winemaking practices, wine brands of national and international renown.
